Experiencing True Love!
I love those days when something joyful and unexpected happens, something that serves as a catalyst for more love, connection and laughter in life. I was blessed to experience this recently when my parents arrived home with a new puppy for our family to love and enjoy. We were speechless when they surprised us! Two of the kids literally cried tears of joy. I never thought it would be possible to give my kids the experience of welcoming in a brand new puppy. It was a perfect scenario for my kids to have a wish fulfilled.
There are no accidents and everything happens in perfect timing. So, our new puppy Kaili, has joined our family for the highest good of all. She has blessed us with an opportunity to learn some deeper lessons about love. We are moving beyond “puppy love” to an experience of Real Love.
Real Love or the Love of God is very different then the conditional love we experience in the world.
“A Course in Miracles” says, Perhaps you think that different kinds of love are possible. Perhaps you think there is a kind of love for this, a kind for that; a way of loving one, another way of loving still another.” (WB.127)
This is our common experience as people. We have all kinds of special love relationships that are different and distinct from the next. “Best friends, work friends, acquaintances, immediate family, extended family, lover, partner, spouse, children, pets, neighbours…. we link each category of relationship to an acceptable level of love. We make up boundaries to try and keep order with love. We play favourites. We give love when things are going our way and withdraw love when we feel offended or our expectations are dashed. When conditions aren’t being met we get angry or leave, and continue on our mission for more special love.
“A Course in Miracles” says,
“It has no separate parts and no degrees; no kinds nor levels, no divergencies and no distinctions. It is like itself, unchanged throughout. It never alters with a person or a circumstance. It is the Heart of God, and also of His Son.” (WB.127)
So how do we learn about Real Love in a world with so many conditions?
