Puppy Love

Experiencing True Love!

I love those days when something joyful and unexpected happens, something that serves as a catalyst for more love, connection and laughter in life. I was blessed to experience this recently when my parents arrived home with a new puppy for our family to love and enjoy. We were speechless when they surprised us! Two of the kids literally cried tears of joy. I never thought it would be possible to give my kids the experience of welcoming in a brand new puppy. It was a perfect scenario for my kids to have a wish fulfilled.

There are no accidents and everything happens in perfect timing. So, our new puppy Kaili, has joined our family for the highest good of all. She has blessed us with an opportunity to learn some deeper lessons about love. We are moving beyond “puppy love” to an experience of Real Love.

Real Love or the Love of God is very different then the conditional love we experience in the world.

“A Course in Miracles” says, Perhaps you think that different kinds of love are possible. Perhaps you think there is a kind of love for this, a kind for that; a way of loving one, another way of loving still another.” (WB.127)

This is our common experience as people. We have all kinds of special love relationships that are different and distinct from the next. “Best friends, work friends, acquaintances, immediate family, extended family, lover, partner, spouse, children, pets, neighbours…. we link each category of relationship to an acceptable level of love. We make up boundaries to try and keep order with love. We play favourites. We give love when things are going our way and withdraw love when we feel offended or our expectations are dashed. When conditions aren’t being met we get angry or leave, and continue on our mission for more special love.

“A Course in Miracles” says,

“Love is one.”

“It has no separate parts and no degrees; no kinds nor levels, no divergencies and no distinctions. It is like itself, unchanged throughout. It never alters with a person or a circumstance. It is the Heart of God, and also of His Son.” (WB.127)

So how do we learn about Real Love in a world with so many conditions?

Life is our classroom and everything can be used in purpose. The ego, if left in charge of the mind, will use everything to strengthen the belief in conditional love and keep us chasing for special love. When we put the Holy Spirit (our Wise Inner Teacher) in charge of our mind, he teaches us about holy relationship and Real Love.

When I ask Holy Spirit about our new puppy and how she can serve the highest purpose, the first lesson that comes is to hold her in my arms. I notice immediately that I relax, my mind opens to connect, and my heart softens. Being in her presence and seeing her as a symbol of innocence brings my mind into alignment with Spirit. Now I am relaxed and open. Now I can learn and experience Truth.

While holding the puppy I feel inspired to write about her in my blog article this month…. here is another example of how we receive Inner Guidance when we are relaxed and surrendered.

Our new puppy does not judge. She loves without judgment. She gives so much just by simply being. She shares her love holy with all of us. We are not judging her either. We are loving her wholly, we are open hearted and sharing. “Love cannot judge. As it is one itself, it looks on all as one. Its meaning lies in oneness.” (WB.127)

We must join with the Holy Spirit in our minds and ask Him to teach us about Real Love. He will use all the symbols in our lives and infuse them with right purpose. He is transforming our relationships from special to Holy by our willingness to relax and open our minds to the truth of Love. Be curious about God’s Love and the gifts that come when we are aligned with His perfection. Our inheritance is an eternal, perfectly, unchanging Love that holds us safe and cared for always.
